SCIENCE WITH COMMUNITY PROGRAMME
Science Laboratory Management Unit (UPMS) in collaboration with Pharmacotoxicology Research Cluster Group of the School of Health Sciences, USM has organised a “Science with Community programme” on 6 April 2017. This programme was also supported by Industry and Community Network, USM.
This half-day programme was headed by Dr. Wan Amir Nizam Wan Ahmad from the Biomedicine programme, aiming to share the idea about science to the primary school students in Kota Bharu area with limited learning facilities in science, and also to nurture their interests in learning sciences through the exposure of basic methods in science research. A total number of 100 students of Standard Six from Sekolah Kebangsaan Mentuan, Kota Bharu participated in this programme together with eight accompanied teachers.
Students and teachers were brought to visit the school and basic science laboratory, and also introduced with a series of demonstration including anatomical models, basic herbs extraction techniques and laboratory basic safety techniques. It is hoped that this programme would be continued in the future to benefit the community as a whole.
