FORENSIC SCIENCE - RESEARCH MODE

INTRODUCTION

Master of Science (Forensic Science) and Doctor of Philosophy by research are offered to produce more forensic professionals specializing in the various fields of forensic science. They also provide opportunities for lifelong learning and assist the efforts to profesionalised experts in forensic science with advance academic degrees in line with the advancement of forensic sciences and technologies as well as meeting elevated standard of forensic science services.

To cater for the needs of the students with different undergraduate background, a wide range of forensic sciences fields including criminology, forensic drug analysis, forensic anthropology, forensic document examination, forensic fire invesitgation, DNA profiling, forensic toxicology, and phyiscal evidence are offered. In general, the study involves literature review, proposal presentation, planning and conducting experimental works, research progress presentation, preparation and submission of research articles, and finally submission of thesis for examination.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

Corresponding to the mission of School of Health Sciences, the Master of Science (Forensic Science) and the Doctor of Philosophy provide exemplary forensic science research experience with the aims to

  1. nurture intellectual and professional forensic science graduates.
  2. produce forensic science graduates who are responsible and possess high ethical standards.
  3. transform knowledge to develop and sustain social well-being.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

1. Research experience (minimum 6 month)

                                  OR

2. Grade A- for final year project

                                  AND

Doctor of Philosophy Master Degree (Coursework or Mixed Mode) 3.00 and above Subject to additional requirement(s) by the School
2.75 – 2.99

1. Research experience (minimum 5 years)

                                  OR

2. Professional experience in related field (minimum 5 years)

                                  OR

3. Two (2) academic publications (journals, not proceedings) in the field applied

                                  OR

4. Grade B for major/elective courses

                                  AND

5. Subject to additional requirement(s) by the School

* Foreign Student has to produce English proficiency result as follows:

  • TOEFL paper based (minimum score 550) or
  • TOEFL computer based (minimum score 213) or
  • TOEFL Internet-based (minimum score 80) or
  • IELTS (skor minimum Band 6)
